This advanced course is ideal preparation for candidates taking the Coastal Skipper practical course or Yachtmaster® exam. As well as having some provision for revising the Day Skipper shorebased course it covers more advanced skills in offshore and coastal navigation by day and night, pilotage, meteorology and collision avoidance.
It is essential that you are thoroughly prepared prior to attending this course. You must find time to revise your Day Skipper shorebased notes (in particular Chartwork, meteorology and IRPCS exercises). Alternatively, attend our Tidal Navigation brush-up course or work through the RYA Navigation Exercises (You may purchase these exercises from us when booking). A thorough understanding of IRPCS is also required prior to joining the course.
When you have successfully completed the assessments you will receive a completion certificate. If you have enjoyed your sailing experience then you should consider enrolling on a Coastal Skipper Practical course.
Navigation to Day Skipper shorebased standard. A sound knowledge of the IRPCS, plus some practical experience afloat is recommended.
